Randy
Schenkel is currently an eighth-grader at Springton Lake
Middle School in Media, Pennsylvania. One of his stories, "The
Fast Kid," was chosen to represent his middle school in the
2002 Delaware County Young Authors' Contest. Randy's "Night
of the Living Dead," which appeared in Issue #1 of The
Squid, won second place in the readers' choice poll. Though
rumors persist, he denies all accusations of tomb robbing.
Stories: "Night
of the Living Dead", "Shipwrecked"
and "Chickens"
Patrick Hellman
Shubert is currently an eleventh-grader at Penncrest
High School in Media, Pennsylvania. He has won numerous awards and
distinctions, including first prize in the Mad Poet's Society Contest
and first prize in the 1999 Delaware County Young Authors' Contest,
and his poetry was published in the anthology SHELTER FROM THE STORM.
During middle school, he worked as an editor for the literary magazine
SPARTA'S LIBRARY and now serves as a staff writer for Penncrest's
LION'S ROAR. Current projects include essays in explorative theology,
a science fiction novel title SILENCE STIRRED, and "sparse
poetry."
Even with such a loaded
writing schedule, Pat still finds time to pursue a mind-boggling
array of varied interests. He plays the saxophone and multiple percussion
instruments and serves as Assistant Drum Major for the school marching
band. In addition, he is a competitive runner and pole-vaulter.
Get this: he also practices woodcarving. We here at The Squid
are convinced that Pat has engineered some sort of time dilation
device…
Pat's sights are set
on the United States Naval Academy, where he plans to enter the
field of medicine.
Stories: "Will to
Live"
Jessica Silverberg, the featured author from Issue #1 of
The Squid, is an impressive writer with a gift for tales
of the fantastic. Her writing and artwork have won numerous honors,
including first prize in the 2001 Delaware County Young Authors'
Contest and a place in the 2002 Pennsylvania State Art Exhibit.
She is currently a ninth-grader at Penncrest High School in Media,
Pennsylvania.

Cat" "The
Lump" "The
Rebirth"
Eleni Solomos
likes cats, cheese, 1970s Cadillacs, books, and films.
Greek jazz, too. Though Squid fans know Eleni for
her artwork, she owns quite a writing resume. Consider the following
achievements: winner, 2002 Keystone Short Story Award; attended
the Pennsylvania Governor's School for the Arts as a Creative Writing
major during the summer of 2002; selected to participate in the
Central League Writing Contest 9th, 10th, 11th grade; won CLWC 2nd
place 9th grade, 1st place 10th grade; selected to participate in
the Penn State essay contest, 2002; selected to participate in the
NCTE Writing Contest, 2002; current editor-in-chief of the Keystone-Award-winning
GRYPHON.
She's also the vice-president
of the National Honors Society, Penncrest chapter, the secretary
of the National Arts Honor Society, Penncrest chapter, the historian
of Emanon, Penncrest's drama club, and a member of Penncrest's chapter
of the International Thespian Society.
Eleni reports "spreading
herself pretty thin between all of this ridiculousness." Lucky
for us, she's made the time to help The Squid onto its
tentacles.
